BALTIMORE, MD. - Charleston Southern was defeated twice on the final day of the Marriott Greyhound Classic, falling in four sets to both tournament host Loyola and Rider on Saturday to close out the weekend in Reitz Arena on the campus of Loyola University Maryland.

Senior middle blocker Wynter Davis was named to the All-Tournament team for the Buccaneers as Charleston Southern falls to 4-7 in the 2012 season after going 1-2 on the weekend as CSU defeated Morgan State in straight sets on Friday afternoon to open the tournament.

"There are still some lessons we can learn from today," commented head coach Al Givens on Saturday evening following the matches. "One thing I've learned from sports in general is that nothing is every as good or as bad as it seems. We need to come back home, work hard and take steps forward this week as we prepare for our tournament this upcoming weekend."

Match One: Loyola 3, CSU 1 (25-17, 25-22, 20-25, 25-14)

Meredith Parrott led the way with 10 kills and Kayla Klinger, Sydney Tracy and Wynter Davis had nine kills apiece against tournament host Loyola University Maryland on Saturday morning, but led by Faye Lukas' match-high 22 kills, the Greyhounds downed the Buccaneers in four sets, 25-17, 25-22, 20-25, 25-14.

Ashley Higgenbothem and Tracy had 15 digs apiece and Klinger and Kirsten Struksnes also were in double-digits for Charleston Southern as the Buccaneers fell for the first time on the weekend in the Marriott Greyhound Classic played in Reitz Arena.

Loyola broke open a 9-all game in the first set of the match, rattling off nine consecutive points to build an 18-9 lead in the frame following a kill by Mindy Maloney. A kill by Tracy ended the 9-0 stretch and Tracy added back-to-back service aces and another kill in the frame, while Klinger and Davis combined for a block at the net, but Lauren Andersen cut the CSU rally short with a kill to end the set in favor of the Greyhounds, 25-17.

The teams battled through the second set before Loyola broke a 16-all tie with a 4-0 run for the largest lead of either team up until that point as Janet Pressler placed a service ace to put the Greyhounds up 20-16. Facing set point at 24-19 following a CSU service error, the Buccaneers rallied with three consecutive points on a pair of Tracy kills and one by Parrott off the assist from Struksnes, but Jac Bullock put the final point on the board for Loyola to give the hosts the 2-0 advantage.

Charleston Southern pulled away in the third set, snapping the 12-12 tie on back-to-back kills by Parrott as the Buccaneers went up 19-15. CSU continued to press the advantage as Davis sandwiched a pair of kills around a Tracy kill, before Parrott slammed home the final point of the set to put CSU back in the running with the 25-20 set victory.

Loyola took control of the fourth set early, going up 23-11 on a 14-3 run sparked by three kills apiece by Lukas and Katie Dircks to build the double-digit lead. CSU kept the match alive on a kill by Klinger, but Bullock closed out the final set with a kill to clinch the 25-14 victory.

Struksnes finished the match with a double-double for the Buccaneers with 31 set assists and 10 digs as Charleston Southern hit .170 from the floor in the match. Davis led the Bucs at the net with four total blocks on the day, while Parrott hit .364 from the floor in her first match recording double-digit kills in her CSU career.

Match Two: Rider 3, CSU 1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-19)

Sydney Tracy recorded a match-high 14 kills and Kayla Klinger added 13 of her own as the Buccaneers took the first set from the Broncs in their final match at the Marriott Greyhound Classic at Reitz Arena, but led by the trio of Stephanie Nagy, Kayla Wong and Jaclyn Webber, Rider rallied to take the final three sets and the match win, 18-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-19.

Tracy and Klinger finished up the game with double-doubles as Klinger finished with 14 digs and Tracy added 12 as the Buccaneers fell to 4-7 on the 2012 season. Ashley Higgenbothem added a team-high 20 digs for the match, while Meredith Parrott had five blocks at the net for CSU.

Charleston Southern snapped a 10-all tie in the first set of the match on Kirsten Struksnes' serve as Erin LaVenice, Klinger and Tracy recorded consecutive kills to put the Buccaneers up 14-10 midway through the set. The lead increased to seven at 24-17 as Parrott and LaVenice combined for a block and Tracy put away the final point for CSU with a kill off the assist from Struksnes to give the Bucs the 1-0 lead.

Rider broke open the second set of the match, going up 21-14 following a block by Webber and Nicole Moorman, but the Buccaneers rallied back, cutting the lead down to three at 24-21 following a block by Parrott and Klinger. However, CSU's rally fell short as a service error closed out the set and evened the match at 1-apiece between the two teams.

A 9-3 run midway through the third set gave Rider the 18-12 advantage and the Broncs rode the momentum, recording seven of the final 10 points in the set with Webber closing it out with a service ace to give Rider the 2-1 lead.

In the final set, Charleston Southern battled back from a deficit to knot the score up at 18-all following a kill by Tracy, but Rider closed out the match with the final five points following another Tracy kill end the contest with the 25-19 victory.

"One thing I've learned from sports in general is that nothing is ever as good or bad as it seems, reality is somewhere in between," said Givens about the season's ups and downs. "We have an opportunity to make progress before we get into our conference season in two weeks and we plan on continuing to work and evaluate as we move on from here."

Charleston Southern returns home as the Buccaneers host their second tournament of the season on September 14-15, with teams from Wofford, Stetson and The Citadel coming to the Buccaneer Field House. The first match of the tournament will feature Stetson vs. The Citadel at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 14th, with the host Buccaneers taking on Wofford at 7 p.m.
