Wofford Ends CSU Winning Streak

Spartanburg S.C.: The Lady Bucs fall to Wofford for the second time this season, (18-25, 25-21, 17-25, 12-25) at the Quality Inn & Suites Spartan Classic in Spartanburg S.C. Sep 16.

Sydney Tracy continued her consistent play for CSU (2-10) leading the team with 12 kills and a .545 hitting percentage. Ashley Higginbothem again led the way defensively for the Lady Bucs recording 21 digs. Kirsten Struksnes has 19 assists, and senior Amy Nokes chipped in with 18. CSU totaled 41 kills, 39 assists, 57 digs, and hit for .143.

Wofford (9-3) had three players with double-digit kills: Rachel Woodlee (18), Amanda Liguori (11), and Wendy Burnett (10).Liguori also added a team-high 17 digs. Bekah Dorsey paced the Terrier attack with 41 assists. Wofford had 53 kills, 46 assists, 62 digs, and hit for .275.

Erin Lavenice notched a kill to start off the first set, and along with a Wofford error, put CSU up 2-1. Sydney Tracy had a kill to put the Lady Bucs up 3-2. Wofford would bounce back to take the early 5-4 lead. A Wynter Davis kill would tie it up at 6-6. Back to back CSU points would bring the Bucs within one 9-8. Wofford took the 13-10 advantage, Sydney Tracy would bring CSU within one 13-12. That would be the closest the Bucs would get as Wofford would pull away to close the set 25-18. Wofford had 13 kills compared to CSU's 11, the Terriers committed three errors to the Lady Bucs seven.

CSU took the 1-0 lead to start the second set, but Wofford would string four together to take the 4-1 lead. A kill by Sydney Tracy sparked a three point CSU run to tie the set at 6-6. Wofford would go on another small run to take the 11-8 lead. CSU would battle back to tie the set at 13's and 14's before back to back kills by Sydney Tracy and Kayla Klinger put the Lady Bucs up two 16-14. The Terriers would not give up and came back to tie the match at 17-17 before taking the 18-17 lead. CSU would refuse to go down and battled back to take the set 25-21. CSU led the kills count 12-11 and hit for .214 in comparison to Wofford's .138.

Wofford jumped out to an early 5-2 advantage to start the third set. A kill by Wynter Davis would bring CSU within two 7-5. Wofford would begin to stretch the lead before a Morgan Hadden kill temporarily stopped the Terrier run and brought CSU within four 13-9. CSU would string a run together thanks to two Kayla Klinger kills and one by Sydney Tracy to close the gap to five 21-16.Wofford would turn up the intensity and stretch the lead to eight, defeating CSU 25-17. Wofford record 17 kills to CSU's 11.

CSU would jump out to a 3-1 lead in the early parts of the fourth set. Wofford would charge back to tie the set 5-5. The set would tie again at 7-7 and 8-8 before Wofford would begin to steadily put the game out of reach. Despite a late kill from Sydney Tracy the Lady Bucs could not bounce back, eventually falling to the Terriers 25-12.

CSU will continue play in the Quality Inn & Suites Spartan Classic on Sep. 17 as they face off against Gardner Webb (10 a.m.) and Western Carolina (5:30 p.m.).
