CSU vs. CofC Game Notes; 7:00 Tip; Listen to Action On Radio, Online

The Buccaneers resume their longest-running rivalry Wednesday when they face the College of Charleston Cougars for the 42nd consecutive season, this time in a non-conference at the North Charleston Coliseum. CSU (3-3), which fell to The Citadel Monday night, is looking for its third straight win against the Cougars.

Bucs vs. Cougars Game Notes

With a win against The College, the Bucs would finish November with a winning record for the third straight season beginning with the arrival of head coach Barclay Radebaugh in 2005-06. The Bucs feature six newcomers on the roster, including four true freshman and two transfers.
The Cougars (2-3), members of the Southern Conference, won 73-68 Saturday at Fordham in New York City. Each of the team's wins this season have come against Atlantic 10 opposition (Temple, Fordham). This will be C of C's home opener.

HEAD-TO-HEAD HISTORY
This is the longest-running and most frequently-played rivalry for CSU, as the Bucs and Cougars are meeting for the 42nd straight season and 70th time overall. The College leads the all-time series 46 wins to 23 in a rivarly that dates back to 1966- 67. CSU has won the last two meetings following a dominating stretch by the Cougars, during which time the C of C won 23 consecutive match-ups from 1989-90 through 2004-05. If you remove that 16-season CSU draught, the series stands even at 23-23 during the other 25 seasons.
The Bucs are 10-20 all-time in designated road games against the Cougars (also 13-21 in designated home games and 0-5 at neutral sites.) Since the arrival of Barclay Radebaugh in 2005-06, CSU is 2-0 against The College including last season's 84-80 overtime win on Nov. 30 at the Coliseum. Donnell Covington scored 25 points to lead the Bucs in that contest, while Chris Moore and Giedrius Knysas each added 16 points in the victory.

CONFERENCE KUDOS
The Big South honored two Bucs Monday after a week that included a road win at North Florida. Senior Chris Moore was named conference Player of the Week after averaging 19.0 ppg in two games. He scored a career-high 27 points while connecting on a career-best 10 field goals in the victory at UNF.
Omar Carter was named Freshman of the Week after recording double-doubles in each CSU game. Carter collected a team high 16 points and 12 rebounds against Auburn, then another 12 boards and 10 points against UNF. Jamarco Warren was named the conference Freshman of the Week on Nov. 13th after scoring 24 points in his first career game against Anderson.

SPRINTING FROM THE GATES
CSU has gotten off to a strong start to its season every year since the arrival of Barclay Radebaugh as head coach. Including this season, the Bucs are now 11-7 in the month of November under Radebaugh, their best record out of any month during the season. In 2005-06, CSU began the season 4-1 (through December 1st), including victories against The Citadel and the College of Charleston. Last season, the Bucs began the campaign with a 5-3 record (through November 30), again sweeping its Charleston city rivals in the process.

GIVE US MOORE!
CSU's leading scorer Chris Moore has been on fire at the outset of the season. After shooting only 1-9 from the field against Anderson in the team's opener, Moore has combined to shoot 32-of-55 on field goals (58%) in the last five games, including 15-of-30 on three pointers. The senior guard has scored in double-figures in each of the last five games, during which he is averaging 17.4 ppg.
The Morganton, N.C. native returned for his senior season after missing the final 14 games of last season with a broken foot. Moore, one of the best shooters in the Big South, has averaged in double-figures scoring in both his sophomore (13.0 ppg) and junior (14.2 ppg) seasons.

WARREN PEACE
True freshman point guard Jamarco Warren has made his presence felt quickly in the beginning of his CSU career. Warren has started all six of CSU's games at the point, making him the only Buc to start each contest this season.
Warren led the Bucs in scoring in his first two collegiate games (24 pts vs. Anderson, 18 pts vs. Tulane), and he connected on five three-pointers in each of those contests. The 5-foot, 10-inch Warren is the all-time leading scorer at Gainesville (Ga.) High School, and was a first team all-state selection in Georgia his senior season.

KEEPING UP WITH THE CARTERS
CSU's forward duo of Shelton and Omar Carter (no relation) has provided early-season scoring and rebounding punch for the Bucs. They have become the two leading board men in addition to two of the top four point producers for CSU this season.
Freshman Omar Carter has scored in double figures in each of his first six games at CSU, and is currently third on the squad at 14.2 ppg. Omar, second on the Bucs at 6.2 rebounds/game, was an all-state selection in North Carolina at Charlotte Christian High School, where he helped lead the team to the state championship game his senior season.
Sophomore Shelton Carter is averaging 11.2 ppg and a team-best 6.3 boards/game through six contests. The Greensboro, NC native averaged 6.4 ppg in 30 games last season.

TOVI, OR NOT TOVI...
Highly-touted freshman point guard Tovi Bailey made his Bucs debut last Monday against Auburn after missing the first three games of the season because of a foot injury suffered earlier this fall. In three games played, Bailey is averaging 2.7 ppg and 2.3 rpg.
The Villa Rica, Ga. native is the all-time leading scorer at Villa Rica High School with 1,883 career points, from where he was an all-state selection his senior season. Bailey was looked at by many college programs, including Gonzaga, before choosing to attend CSU.

NEW FACES
With six newcomers debuting this season and only three seniors on the roster, the Buccaneers are one of the youngest teams in the Big South. With the departures of seniors Donell Covington and Dwayne Jackson alone, the Bucs lost 42% of their total offense from last season. Thus, CSU is relying heavily on its young guns to provide scoring punch.
In the backcourt, freshman point guards Tovi Bailey and Jamarco Warren are expected to be CSU's primary ball-handlers this season, while freshman shooting guard Austin Johnson should challenge incumbents Chris Moore and Terrance Grier for playing time at the two-spot. JUCO transfer Lorenza Knight will provide depth at the point as well.
In the frontcourt, freshman forward Omar Carter has turned heads during preseason practices and began the season as the Bucs' starting small forward. Meanwhile, East Carolina transfer Quinton Goods should provide a strong rebounding presence up front.

EARLY HOME COOKIN'
The Bucs played their first four games this season at home. CSU will be playing eight of its first ten games on one of its home floors, if you include Wednesday's game at the North Charleston Coliseum. Included in those eight home contests are three games at the Coliseum.
CSU is now 11-4 under Barclay Radebaugh in non-conference home games (and 17-13 overall at home). The Bucs have a 3-4 record under Radebaugh in games played at the Coliseum (but have lost three straight).

NFL BOUND?
Senior Vernon Huger, CSU's leading rebounder in the 2005-06 basketball season, has decided to forgo his final season in order to concentrate on preparing for next April's NFL Draft. Huger (pronounced YOU-gee) just completed his senior season with the Buccaneer football squad, where he excelled as a wide receiver. The Stratford High School product caught 29 passes for 365 yards and five TDs in eight games played this fall.

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS
Since Barclay Radebaugh took over the program in 2005-06, CSU has played very well against non-Division I opposition. Including wins this season against Anderson (SC) and UVA-Wise, the Bucs have gone 9-1 under Radebaugh in games against non-Division I schools. The team's last loss to a non-Div. I opponent came on December 28, 2005 when CSU fell to NAIA's Southern Wesleyan 92-88 at home.
