CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston women's basketball team will try to continue their good fortunes at home on Saturday, as the High Point Panthers will come to the Buc Dome for a 2 p.m. showdown.
This is the second and final time in the regular season that these two teams will face off against one another. The Panthers (9-12, 7-4 in conference) took the first matchup back on January 11th in High Point, erasing a 17-point deficit in the second half to defeat the Bucs (4-18, 2-9 in conference) 60-57.Â
High Point
The Panthers sit at no. 3 in the Big South with a 7-4 conference record. They come into Saturday's game having lost two-straight games at home against Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville. Prior to that, they had pulled off five wins in a row.
Since playing against the Bucs in January, their offense has taken off. The Panthers sit at the top of the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 43.7% from the field, and their percentage from beyond the arc at 33.1% is third best in the conference. They make 8.1 three pointers per game, which is also the best in the conference. Skyler Curran is the leader of their offense, averaging 14.8 ppg, which is third best in the Big South. Jenson Edwards has the third most assists in the conference with 76.Â
Charleston Southern
- After only turning the ball over 15 times in the win over Longwood last Saturday, which was tied for a season-low, the Bucs followed that up with 29 turnovers, tied for third most they have had in a game all season.Â
- On Wednesday, the Bucs shot 22/58 from the field, and were 5/19 from beyond the arc. Alba Garcia was responsible for two of those three-pointers. She went 2/4 in eight minutes.Â
- Catherine Alben continues to impress this season. In her freshman year, the Grayson, G.A. native has a team-high 10.1 points per game and is second on the team with 27 steals.Â
- Kennedi Jackson followed up her 25-point performance against Longwood last Saturday with her fourth double-double of the season against Gardner-Webb, scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds.Â
- Sha'Mya Leigh is the only player on the team to have started all 22 games this season. She is averaging 33.5 minutes per game. Zaire Hicks is the next closest with 24.5 minutes per game.
