CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern men's basketball fell to fellow Big South foe Gardner-Webb in the Buc Dome Wednesday night, 67-59. The Runnin' Bulldogs sweep the season series with the win, as the first meeting went the way of Gardner-Webb to open leagues play for both teams in Boiling Springs.
KELLY CONTINUES TO IMPRESS
Taje' Kelly picked up right where he left off in Virginia with another solid line Wednesday night. Kelly went 5-9 from the field to end up with 11 points. Kelly had an impact on the glass as well, recording nine boards to finish one shy of his second-straight double-double. Eight of the nine rebounds came on the defensive side of the floor.
TALE OF TWO HALVES
Gardner-Webb had a strong showing in the first half, taking a 36-27 into the midway break behind a strong showing from Anthony Seldon. The second half saw the Bucs flip the script and outscore the Runnin' Bulldogs 32-31, shooting 40% from the field while holding Gardner-Webb to just 31%.
SHARIN' THE ROCK
Charleston Southern turned in an impressive effort with sharing the basketball, something they have done well with all season. The Bucs recorded 12 assists on 20 made field goals from the field, marking another contest that they record assists on at least half of their made shots. Four different Bucs recorded multiple dimes, paced by
Kalib Clinton's three.
DOUBLE FIGURES
Charleston Southern saw five Bucs finish the contest with double figures, led by Harris Jr.'s 13. Kelly had a strong night as well for CSU, as the big man finished one rebound shy of his second-straight double-double after amassing 11 points.
Tahlik Chavez added 12 points, while
RJ Johnson joined Kelly with 11 and Clinton rounded out the list with 10 to add to seven boards.
