CHARLESTON, S.C. –Â
Claudell Harris Jr. led all scorers with 22, but it wasn't enough as it took extra basketball for Campbell to top Charleston Southern in the Buc Dome. Campbell had one fall with zeros on the clock in the extra period to down CSU, 78-76, in the first overtime game for the Bucs this season.
THINGS GOING EARLY
Charleston Southern had things working early, as the Bucs jumped out to a six-point advantage throughout the early stages of the opening stanza. CSU used a
Taje' Kelly jumper in the paint in the closing seconds of the opening stanza to take that same six-point advantage into the midway break.
Â
OUTSHOOTIN' THE CAMELS
Charleston Southern again has a great showing from the floor, finishing the contest making over half of their attempts (50.8%) and marking the fifth-straight game CSU has outshot its opponent. The opening 20 saw the Bucs shoot a remarkable 57% from the floor, leading to the midway break advantage.
Â
DOUBLE-DIGITS
Claudell Harris Jr. shined again tonight, finishing with a game-high 22 points on 8-13 shooting from the field. It was his bucket in the final seconds of regulation that forced overtime and kept the Bucs alive.
Taje' Kelly followed Harris Jr.'s 22 with 16 of his own on 7-10 shooting, while
RJ Johnson added 14 on 6-12 shooting making each of the three in double figures ending the night shooting 50% or better from the field.
Â
IN THE BOX
The Buccaneers showed up in the final box as CSU doubled-up Campbell on points off turnovers as well as outscoring them, 34-24, in the paint. Charleston Southern was the only side to record points in transition, they held the biggest lead (12) of the night, and they held the advantage for just under 28:00 of gameplay.Â
