CLEMSON, S.C. – Charleston Southern men's basketball dropped their second contest in a row, falling 91-59 to Clemson Friday afternoon at Littlejohn Coliseum.
Â
Charleston Southern was the first on the board in the early going, as
Sadarius Bowser got fouled on a pass from
Tahlik Chavez and went 2-2 from the charity stripe. Clemson would answer back with a quick 8-0 to regain control. CSU would not go anywhere, as they would bring it back to within two in response.
Â
Tahlik Chavez was again responsible for much of the Charleston Southern offense early on, knocking down two treys for six to open the Bucs scoring. Points came at a premium for the Bucs early, as the Clemson defense limited the CSU offense to just 24 total points at the end of the first half. A tight game down the stretch was pushed to a double-digit advantage after a 9-0 run by the Tiger offense on a pair of treys and a three-point play the old-fashioned way.
Â
Clemson shot 45% from the field in the opening stanza while holding CSU to just 35%. Neither team was able to shoot the long ball with much success, as both teams shot under 40% from long range. Charleston Southern turned the ball over 11 times, just to Clemson's four and the rebound battle was separated by just a single board.
Â
The Tigers answered the call in the second half as well, starting on an 11-3 run to push the advantage to 21. Two straight three-point plays led the charge for Clemson.
Kalib Clinton would come alive early in the half as well, using the charity stripe to get into a rhythm. The freshman would rattle off five straight points and an offensive rebound in the early stages.
Â
Clemson would then extend their lead with a 15-4 run that would extend through the midway point of the half. CSU would struggle to find any offensive traction in that time. Clemson's defense would be able to come up with stops to fuel their offense and lead the charge in the early runs. The rest of the half would be played about even after the Tigers had full control.
Â
Nick Honor led the way for the Tigers, scoring 17 points and collecting seven assists. Al-Amir Dawes was right behind with 16 of his own, and PJ Hall finished with 10. Dawes and Naz Bohannon split the rebound crown, each having seven.
Â
For the Bucs,
Tahlik Chavez finished as the leading scorer with 14, and
Kalib Clinton was right behind with 11. Chavez and Clinton finished as the only Bucs in double-figures on the night.
Cheikh Faye and
Sadarius Bowser led the way in the rebounding department, each collecting five.
