WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Charleston Southern men's basketball dropped its second contest in a row, falling 95-59 to Wake Forest Wednesday night at the LJVM Coliseum.
Â
Wake Forest took control of things early, using their defense to command control of the contest. The Demon Deacons quickly jumped out to a 16-8 advantage, with Jake LaRavia getting off to a hot start. The Indiana State transfer claimed seven of the first 16 points for the home team.
Â
Tahlik Chavez was responsible for much of the Charleston Southern offense early on, knocking down two treys along with a layup for eight in the early going. Points came at a premium for the Bucs early, as the Wake Forest defense limited the CSU offense to just 11 total points at the halfway point of the first half.
Â
LaRavia continued his hot first-half shooting finishing the first half 6-8 from the field including 1-1 from three-point land for 15 points to lead all scorers. Khadim Sy followed LaRavia's performance with 12 points of his own.
Â
Claudell Harris Jr. had a strong showing off the bench in the first half for the Bucs, finishing with seven in the opening frame. Chavez was the leader for the CSU offense with eight of his own after being held quiet from the strong start.
Â
Wake Forest was able to control the first 4:00 of the second half as well, pushing things out of reach from that point. An Alondes Williams layup with 14:14 left in the second half pushed things to a 30-point advantage for the Demon Deacons.
Â
LaRavia finished the night as the leading scorer, collecting 24 on 10-14 shooting from the field. Daivien Williamson found some success behind the three-point line down the stretch of the second half as well, finishing 4-4 from behind the line. Williams came in scoring 20+ points in the previous two games, but CSU was able to keep him at just 10 tonight.
Â
For the Bucs,
Deontaye Buskey came in as the leading scorer before tonight but was unable to find anything from the field. Wake Forest was able to hold the fifth-year senior scoreless for the first time this season. Chavez finished as the only Buc in double-figures on the night.
Cheikh Faye led the way in the rebounding department, collecting a team-high seven.
