ATHENS, Ga. - Charleston Southern tested the No. 6 ranked Georgia Bulldogs in their first game at the Georgia Softball Classic, but came up short 6-2 Friday, at the UGA Softball Stadium. The Bucs outhit the Bulldogs seven to six, with help from Erin Kegley, who sent out a two-run homerun to give the Bucs a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth. CSU dropped to 7-5-1 with the loss, while Georgia improved to 10-1.

Kegley had a big day for the Bucs, going 2 for 2 with a walk and the two-run shot. Kristin Kelleher also had a pair of hits, while Shayla Cullum chipped in with a hit and a run scored. Ashley Razey paced the Georgia offense with two hits and three RBI.

CSU started a two out rally in the top of the first, with back-to-back hits from Cullum and Kelleher, but couldn't manage any runs after a strikeout ended the inning. Sondra Vetter got the starting nod for the Bucs, holding the Bulldogs scoreless in the first two innings.

After another blank inning in the third for CSU, Georgia got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the inning. A single and a throwing error had Razey at third, who would later score an unearned run after a wild pitch.

The Bucs bounced back in the top of the fourth, thanks to a Cullum walk followed by the Kegley homerun. CSU couldn't get anything else going, but took a 2-1 lead to the bottom of the inning. The lead was short lived however, as Georgia tied things at two apiece, thanks to a Razey RBI double.

The Bulldog bats were relatively quiet for the day, but they managed to break the game open with four runs on four hits in the fifth. Razey capped off the inning with a two RBI double that gave Georgia a 6-2 advantage.

CSU looked to make a game out of it with two hits in the top of the seventh, but couldn't produce any runs, as the Bulldogs held on for the final 6-2 win.

Vetter picked up the loss to move to 3-2, after five earned runs and seven strikeouts in four innings work. Erin Arevalo improved to 5-1 on the season, throwing three innings and allowing just two hits and no runs.

The Bucs will look to bounce back against South Alabama tomorrow, playing at 10 a.m.
