Alex Huisman enters his first season with Charleston Southern after joining the program over the summer of 2023.
He joins the Buccaneer family with over a decade of collegiate basketball experience. He is originally from Jewell, Iowa and played at South Hamilton High School before going on to a four-year playing career at Upper Iowa University, graduating in 2011 with his bachelor's in K-12 Physical Education, Heath & Coaching.

After graduation, he was a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater from 2011-2013 before moving on to Iowa Wesleyan for nearly a full decade with the Tigers. He originally arrived on campus in 2013 and was the assistant coach for a season before being elevated to the role of Head Coach from 2014-2022.

In his first season, he was named the SLIAC coach of the year. While he was at the helm, he coached four All-Americans, a conference player of the year, and nine All-Conference honorees, including five who made the First Team. This past year, he served as an assistant coach at Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville and coached the final seven games of the season as the Interim Head Coach.
