CHARLESTON – Friday, Charleston Southern traveled across the country to compete in the 2025 Utah Tech Volleyball Tournament. Their Friday opponents would include Weber State and Utah Tech – two programs that CSU has never played against on a volleyball court. CSU would lose a tight five-set match to Weber State to begin the day, and would fall to the hosting Utah Tech Trailblazers later that same evening.
The highlight of Friday's first match against Weber State would be the fourth set. A 27-25 finish, in favor of the Bucs, would send the match to a fifth and final set. Neither team had a lead larger than three points at any point in the period. After being all tied up at 20-20, the Buccaneer offensive attack was so versatile, multiple players scored or assisted the set's winning points. The 20-20 tie would be broken via a Faith Burch kill, assisted by Cara McLean. Tying the match at 23-23, a kill by Emily Struckmeyer assisted by Tristin Sutton. Sutton would dish out the final assists of the set as well, connecting with Struckmeyer and Skylar Yates for the final points (27-25). CSU would fall by the minimum margin of two points in set number five, 13-15.
Their Friday night match-up against the home team Utah Tech would finish in sweeping fashion (0-3), not in favor of the Bucs. CSU would once again be led offensively by Skylar Yates who would pick up her second double-figure performance (10) of the day in the kill column.
