Bucs Win Three Events at South Carolina's Weems Baskin invitational

COLUMBIA, SC – The Charleston Southern women's hurdles crews shined on Saturday at the Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina. The Buccaneers placed three student-athletes in the top five in both events at the meet.
 
Austyn Koppe, Maeva Tahou and Chloe Maé Wilks were each entered in the 100m hurdles and advanced through to the finals and placed in the top five in that heat. They each ran career best times despite the wind reading eclipsing 2.0 in each of their heats making the times unofficial.
 
Koppe had the fastest time of all competitors in the prelims with 13.76 (3.8) and then had a 13.39 (4.7) in the finals for second at the meet. This time would have marked a career best and one of the top marks in conference history. Tahou recorded 13.87 (2.3) and 13.65 (4.7) for fourth in the finals while Wilks had times of 13.90 (2.3) and 14.32 (4.7) for fifth.
 
In the 400m hurdles, Grenisha Thomas won the race with her time of 61.55 while du Toit had a 61.59 to be the runner-up. Koppe also ran in it and had a 64.38 for fourth.
 
Also in sprinting events, Maddie St. Louis claimed second overall in the 400m with a time of 57.11. Caroline Aslerin was fifth at 58.25 and Sophia Cupp was sixth at 58.57. Nourhan Hassan advanced through the 100m prelims with a 12.14 (2.1) and had a time of 12.12 (0.4) in the finals for eighth. She was also the team's top finisher in the 200m with a time of 25.38 for 10th. Tahou claimed 11th with a 25.40 and Sophia Cupp was 13th at 25.73.
 
The Buccaneers fielded runners in the 800m and 1500m as well. Katrina Husby highlighted the team's performances in these events with her personal best time of 4:47.70 in the 1500m for fifth overall.
 
Josaphine Ankney won the shot put at the meet with her season best mark of 12.69m in the event. Also in the event, Alayna Abrams and Avah Morrison finished in the top eight with their marks of 11.65m and 11.50m.
 
Morrison was the runner-up in the discus with her personal best throw of 41.47m. Ankney had her best throw of 33.63m place her in ninth. Abrams took seventh and in the hammer with a 37.28m and Amelia Stembridge was fourth in the javelin with a 35.72m.
 
The day's action came to an end with the women's 4x400m relay with the squad running a time of 3:44.32. The time ranks as the ninth fastest in school history. The relay team featured St. Louis, Thomas, du Toit and Aslerin.
 
Charleston Southern will be back in action next weekend with them traveling to Raleigh, North Carolina. They will be competing in N.C. State's Raleigh Relays which is scheduled to be held from March 27-29.
