CHARLESTON – The Big South Conference announced its winners of their weekly baseball awards on Tuesday morning and selected the Buccaneers'
Anthony Sanguedolce as the Freshman of the Week. This becomes the first award a CSU student-athlete has claimed this season.
He played and started in all four games during the week to help lead Charleston Southern to a perfect 4-0 mark in the contests. With the wins, the Bucs now stand at 6-1 on the year, tying for the best seven-game start in program history and their best since the 2014 season.
This week, Sanguedolce reached safely in each game and scored at least once as well. He had a batting average of .400 (4-10), on base of .600 (9-15) and slugging of .600 while swiping three bases as well. He served as the go-ahead run in the team's win over Miami (OH), getting the action started with a walk before being driven home on a grand slam in the bottom of the 8
th. He got on base four times in that contest while also posting three RBIs as he had a bases loaded clearing double in the bottom of the second.
Charleston Southern has their next game on Wednesday in Statesboro, Georgia as they will be taking on Georgia Southern. The first serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with the action to be available live on ESPN+.
