CHARLESTON, S.C. - On Tuesday night, Carry Brown's Buccaneer volleyball squad traveled downtown to the TD Arena to face off against the College of Charleston. This crosstown match up marked the tenth straight away game for the Bucs who have not played a match at home since their August 26th exhibition. Although a few players were members of the injured list, the Bucs suited up as close to home as they have been all year.
The first set was as close as it gets, a two point victory in favor of the Cougars. CSU's energy was refreshing coming off a tough weekend in Georgia just three days ago. 17 of the Bucs' 36 kills were recorded in the first set, and a noticeable amount of those kills, were from this season's current team leader in the category,
Skylar Yates. Yates, who had 109 kills on the year coming into tonight's match, added another 14 to her tally.
The second and third sets were won by the hosting Cougars. In addition to
Skylar Yates' 14 kills and 6 digs,
Savannah Freeman added 7 kills and 2 service aces of her own.
Ilaria Durante, who splits a lot of time on the court with fellow setter
Tristin Sutton, racked up 23 assists of her own in the match. One of the Bucs liberos,
Julia Fledderjohn, added 12 digs and 4 assists to the CSU effort.
After a long stretch of road games, the Volley Bucs finally return home this Friday for the 2024 Buc Dome Invitational presented by O'Charley's. CSU will play three matches this weekend with the first being against Western Illinois at noon this Friday.Â
