COLUMBIA, S.C. – Women's Indoor Track broke the school record in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) on Saturday at the USC Invitational. The squad finished with a time of 11:46.26, which also ranks as the third-fastest in Big South history and won the event at the meet.
The DMR team featured
Sarah McCartney on the 1600,
Keerstin Augustin on the 1200,
Anne Akagi on the 800 and
Chloe Greene anchoring on the 400. The team's time Is nearly 30 seconds faster than the previous record which was set in 2020 at the Big South Championships.
More career performances for the women were found in the 5K at the meet.
Kallie Henderson and
Taylar White went 2-3 in the event with times of 17:50.41 and 17:53.14 which now rank as 3
rd and 4
th fastest in CSU history.
Another solid performer on the day was
Zemaya Carson who set a personal best in the weight throw at 17.91m to move up a spot from 3
rd to 2
nd on the all-time CSU performers list. Additionally, she had a season-best in the shot put, taking third with a throw of 14.38m just off her school record.
In the 60m hurdles, a pair of Buccaneers took top-ten finishes with each setting personal bests. Chloe-Maé Wilks had an 8.72 to move into 8
th in CSU history while
Jewel Ash ran an 8.75 to move into 10
th on the list.
Additionally in the distance events, Charleston Southern was able to find success in the 800 and mile events.
Freya Buglass had a career-best time of 2:19.45 for 9
th place in program history. In the mile,
Emma James was 5
th overall and led all CSU finishers with a 5:05.44, continuing her breakout season to jump from 9
th to 6
th in CSU history.
Elizabeth Shaylor also ran in the mile and had a time of 5:11.21 to break into the school's records at 10
th in the event.
Greene competed in the long jump and set a personal best as she took 5
th overall in it. Her best jump was 5.64m which placed her 6
th in the Bucs' history.
Charleston Southern will be off next weekend as they prepare for their regular season finale with the USC Open on Saturday, February 17. The following weekend is the Big South Championship from Friday, February 23-24 in Blacksburg, Virginia on the campus of Virginia Tech.
