Bucs Move to 3-0 on the Season as They Defeat S.C. State on Thursday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern remained undefeated with a victory over South Carolina State on Thursday afternoon. The Bucs were able to prevail over the Bulldogs by a 5-2 scoreline and continue their best start to a year since 2015-2016 as they now sit at 3-0.
 
"Today's win was big for us as we are continuing to build our confidence as a team," said junior captain Noa Boyd. "I'm really proud of the way we ate up the competition and excited for our next opponent!"
 
Charleston Southern opened the dual by claiming the doubles point with victories on courts #3 and #2. Amila Jusufbegovic and Brenda Yoris claimed the 6-2 win at flight #3 while Jessica Braun and Marina Skegro bumped up to the #2 position and came away with the 7-6 (5) victory.
 
The Buccaneers got off to a great start in singles play taking the first set in five of the matches. Boyd had one of the most dominant performances of the day, taking the #3 singles contest 6-0, 6-3. The Bulldogs took the match at court #2. Braun continued her strong play in the topflight and won 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
 
Khyanna Singh provided the match point for the Buccaneers with her victory from flight #5, going 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The Bulldogs got their second point of the day on court #4. The day came to an end on court #6 with Kassandra Di Staulo winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in her first appearance of the season.
 
Charleston Southern will enjoy over a week off until their next match. They host Coastal Carolina on Monday, February 12 at noon with the first serve scheduled for noon.
