CHARLESTON, S.C. - After seeing his teammate being home the award the week prior,
RJ Johnson keeps the Big South Player of the Week award in the Lowcountry for an additional seven days.
Posting a team-high 23 points in a win over the Miami Hurricanes let Buc Nation and the rest of the nation know that
RJ Johnson had found his rhythm once again after being absent due to injury against Georgia Tech. The 23-point performance in South Beach was just an appetizer to how Johnson would perform in the Bucs' following two contests.
At home against UT-Martin, Johnson tallied a whopping 30 points, just one shy of his career-high, in an 83-68 victory over the Skyhawks. Johnson would play almost the entirety of the game (39 minutes) against UTM, and although playing many minutes, Johnson took advantage of all of them. He shot an ultra-efficient 10 of 17 from the floor with six of those 10 buckets coming from beyond the three-point line. Johnson would also dish out a team-high six assists in the UT-Martin ball game while only turning the ball over twice.Â
A few days later, back in his home state of North Carolina, Johnson posted a 17-point performance against the Davidson Wildcats.
After two impressive performances on the court and just one-point shy of an undefeated week, Johnson was awarded the Big South Player of the Week award. When asked about what winning this week's award means to him, Johnson's response was full of gratitude.
"First, I want to thank God for blessing me with the gifts that he has given me. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to not only represent Charleston Southern but myself and my family. My gratitude goes out to everyone that is a part of our basketball program and supports us."
Johnson, and the rest of the Bucs, will be back in action tonight in Orangeburg, South Carolina as the match up against South Carolina State.
