CHARLESTON, S.C. - After trailing for most of the first half, the Charleston Southern women's basketball team came from behind to defeat the South Alabama Jaguars by a 60-55 score inside the Buc Dome on Sunday afternoon.
Madison Adamson was one rebound away from a double-double, finishing the contest with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Catherine Alben was the leading scorer with 18 points.
Alaina Nettles was the leading rebounder for the Buccaneers (3-6), as she had a career high of 10 boards.
In a game that had only two lead changes, Charleston Southern was behind for most of the contest. South Alabama (2-5) took the lead with seven minutes left in the first quarter and did not surrender the lead until Alben hit on a three-point shot with 7:54 left in the fourth quarter to give the Bucs the 46-45 advantage.
After the Jaguars hit a jumper with 9:42 left in the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers went on a 9-0 run capped off by a fastbreak layup from
Keshunti Nichols assisted by Adamson to give the Bucs the 51-45 lead.
Down the stretch, the Buccaneers' lead expanded to eight points with 32 seconds left, as Adamson knocked down a pair of free throws. Charleston Southern shot a season-best 13/16 from the charity strike, including 7/8 in the fourth quarter.
Playing from behind for most of the game, Charleston Southern fell behind by 10 points with 3:26 left in the second quarter; however, a fastbreak layup from Alben at the buzzer made it just a 34-29 deficit going into halftime.
The come from behind victory was the first time since 2021 that Charleston Southern overcame a deficit of 10 points or more.
