CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's basketball team picked up their first home win of the season on Friday night, as they took down the North Dakota State Bison by a 67-60 score inside the Buc Dome.
Catherine Alben was the leading scorer for the Buccaneers (2-6) on the night, finishing with 21 points.
Shimei Muhammad finished with a season-high 14 points and was 4/5 from beyond the arc.
Madison Adamson led the team with 10 rebounds, and
Alaina Nettles led the team with six assists.
The Buccaneer defense was outstanding, as they allowed the Bison (3-3) to shoot just 13.0% from beyond the arc. It was neck-and-neck for the entire first half, as neither team led by more than six points. In a low-scoring first half, the Bison took a 10-4 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter.
After that, the Bucs went on an 8-0 run and took their first lead of the game at 12-11 with 8:07 left in the second quarter. Neither team led by more than three points in the second quarter, and the Bison made a layup as time expired to take a 26-25 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, the Buccaneers started to gain some momentum, as they extended their lead to double digits with a three pointer from Alben in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers were able to find success from beyond the arc, as they were 3/6 from beyond the three-point line. The final quarter started with a three pointer from
Madison Adamson that brought the lead back up to 10 points.
The Bison trailed by as many as 14 points late in the fourth quarter, but they would not go away. With 19 seconds left, NDSU trimmed the deficit to five points with a three pointer of their own. They made just three on the night from beyond the arc, with two of them coming in the final two minutes.
The Buccaneers out rebounded their first opponent of the season on Friday night, as they had 42 boards compared to 35 for the Bison. They shot 42.3% from the field and had 26 points in the paint
