CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Furman Paladins traveled to the Holy City to face off against the Charleston Southern men's basketball team Saturday afternoon. The Paladins are led by former CSU men's basketball associate head coach, Bob Richey.
The game did not begin in CSU's favor. The Bucs would only shoot 29 percent from the field in the first half, but luckily their defensive effort would keep their victorious hopes in range. Coming into the ball game, Furman was averaging over 90 points per contest. In the first half against CSU, the Paladins only had 34 points (34-22).
The Buccaneers hoped to close that deficit and use a packed Saturday afternoon Buc Dome to their advantage. Unfortunately, the second-half very much resembled the first 20 minutes of the ball game. Furman would win the first-half by 12, and the second by 9, resulting in a 67-46 final score.
Defensively, CSU held their own. Furman is a high-scoring team and Saturday afternoon, the were held to only 67 points, 6 fast break points, and only made 7 three-point attempts.
Daylen Berry was the only Buc to reach double-figures (16) in the scoring column. The junior shooting guard continues to play high-level basketball on both ends of the floor, and has now led the Bucs in scoring in three of their past four contests.
CSU will have a little time to recover, but will be right back on the road next week as they take on two more high major opponents at Georgia Tech (Nov. 27) and at Miami (Nov. 30).
