TALLAHASEE – Florida State defeated Charleston Southern by a final score of 41-7 on Saturday afternoon inside of Doak Campbell Stadium. The Bucs held tight with the Seminoles through the start of the game, before the home team took full control of the contest.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Seminoles were able to get their first points of the day off a 25-yard field goal near the start of the second. On the ensuing drive by the Bucs, they went 44 yards in eight plays. It ended with an attempted 48-yard field goal which they missed wide right to keep them off the scoreboard.
The half continued with Florida State able to tally a pair of touchdowns with the first coming off a drive that started with a punt return fumble recovery. On the third and three from the CSU 4, Luke Kromenhoek fooled the defense with a shovel pass to Amaree Johnson who was able to walk into the endzone to push the score to 10-0. They tallied another using a two-minute drive over eight plays for 67 yards to score their next. This pushed the score to 17-0 heading into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Seminoles were able to get on the board fast using a 71-yard pass on their first play of the period. They continued to roll the rest of the game, to seal the victory.
The Bucs missed a field goal midway through the fourth to remain scoreless. However, they got the ball back one more time before the game ended and
Kaleb Jackson was able to lead the team down the field on a 12 play, 75-yard drive that was capped off with a passing touchdown to
Landon Sauers from seven yards out. This moved the score for the day to 41-7.
On the ensuing kickoff, they short kicked it to the opposite 35 and were able to recover it as it bounced backwards with
Evan Wynn falling on top of it. They were able to get it inside the redzone, but a failed fourth down ended their drive.
Jackson finished the day going 22-32 tossing for 218 yards including a touchdown.
Autavius Ison finished the game with 13 carries for 28 yards. Through the air, there were five different players who recorded a reception. Taylor led the group with five catches for 41 yards while
Chris Rhone topped the team in receiving yards with 60.
Davion Williams led the team in tackles with eight while
Trayson Fowler and
Justin Waters were right behind with seven and six. Williams led the team in TFLs with 2.5 which included one of the team's three sacks. Josh Hill and
Darrius Bell also were able to get back to the quarterback once.
Gilbert Brown had four punts in the afternoon with them traveling an average of 47.5 yards with his long of 58 being one of two boots to eclipse 50 on the day.
The game concludes the 2024 season for the Buccaneers. They end the year with a record of 1-11 as they now move into the offseason for preparations for the 2025 season to begin.
