Bucs Look to Go 3-0 in Big South Play against Gardner-Webb

CHARLESTON, S.C. -  The Charleston Southern women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday, as they take on the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs at Green-Harbison Stadium in Boiling Springs.

The Bucs (5-3-2, 2-0-0 in conference) are off to their best start in Big South play since 2017, when they started 2-0-1. In their last time out, they defeated the defending Big South Champion, Radford Highlanders, on the road by a 3-2 score. It was their first win against the Highlanders since 1998 and their first win in Radford since 1996.

Gardner-Webb comes into Saturday's match with a 2-9-3 (0-2-2 in conference) record. In their last time out, they were defeated by Presbyterian at home by a 3-1 score. The Runnin' Bulldogs are led by Erik Solberg, who is in his first season. They were picked to finish ninth in the Big South in the preseason.

The Runnin' Bulldogs lead the overall series 8-9-2, but the Buccaneers have won two of the past three matches, including a 2-0 win in Charleston in 2023. The Buccaneers are 2-6-1 when playing in Boiling Springs.

For Charleston Southern, Danika Birch continues to shine in her freshman campaign, scoring a team-leading with six goals on the season with only eight shots on goal. Her .727 SOG% is best on the team and among the best in the conference. In goal, Jenna Moran needs just three saves to move into sole possession of fourth place in school history. She has 240 saves heading into Saturday's match.

Kickoff is at 4 PM and will be streamed on ESPN+. The action can be followed online at csusports.com or on Twitter @csu_wsoccer.
