DELAND, FL - The offense was the story of the evening, as the Charleston Southern women's soccer team improved to 2-1 on Thursday with a 5-1 victory over the Stetson Hatters.
Sydney Thomas gave the Bucs an early lead with a goal on the low left in the 26
th minute, and
Fiama Hidalgo gave the Bucs a 2-0 halftime lead with her second goal of the season.
Alexandra Ehnwall had the assist.
The momentum carried over into the second half, as
Elin Persson scored her first goal of the season with a shot on the high right in the 65
th minute. The Hatters (0-3) followed that up with a penalty kick to get them on the board in the 70
th minute.
Then, the reigning Big South Offensive Player of the Week, Daniel Contreras, continued her hot start to the season with a goal on the low right to make it 4-1, and
Claire Deangelis iced the game with under 10 minutes left with her first career goal. That was the freshman's only shot on the evening.
Charleston Southern managed five shots with just eight shots on goal, while Stetson put 10 shots on goal.
Jenna Moran played in all 90 minutes at goalie and had nine saves.
The Hatters managed 17 shots compared to the Bucs' 10, and both teams had 14 penalties.
