Bucs Eclipse Century Mark as Four Players Reach Double Digits on Monday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern stormed past Johnson & Wales on Monday night by a score of 102-61. The Buccaneers had four players finish in double figures as they were led by Taje' Kelly and DJ Patrick with 18 points.

Charleston Southern raced out to an early lead, getting ahead by ten points within the first four minutes of action as they led 14-4 after a quick 8-0 scoring run. The team continued their strong pace, converting at all levels of the court, hitting from behind the arc, mid-range and inside the paint to build a 50-28 advantage ahead of the halftime break.

The Buccaneers were able to pick up from where they left off immediately in the second half as Patrick connected from deep. CSU strung together 11 unanswered points to put the game away after the visitors trimmed their deficit to just 26 points. The Bucs were able to continue to keep the visitors at bay for the rest of the game as they eclipsed the 100-point mark for the first time this year in the final two minutes off a jumper by Quentin Bolton Jr.

Patrick went five of ten from three-point range, the most threes made by a CSU player this year. Behind the leading scorers, Kalib Clinton had the next most as he finished with 15 on the night. RJ Johnson went a perfect 4-4 from the court, including making all three from deep, to finish with 14. Johnson and Patrick lead the team in assists as they each had five. Clinton ended just shy of a double-double, finishing with nine boards, leading the team in the category.

As a team, Charleston Southern went 38-63 (60.3%) from the floor and 13-29 (44.8%) from deep. At the free throw line, they went 13-17 (76.5%). The Buccaneers won the turnover battle 13-9 and were able to outrebound the Wildcats by a 39-30 margin.
