High Point Runs Past Charleston Southern 3-0 on Saturday Afternoon

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The first half of the Big South volleyball schedule came to an end on Saturday afternoon with High Point taking a victory by sweep to remain unblemished in conference play.

High Point got off to a fast start against the Bucs in the first set. The Panthers used their middles to get those early points and claimed the set at 25-17 after CSU was able to play it even down the stretch. The second set went-back and-forth early as the Buccaneers were able to bring the score back to even on four separate occasions. HPU slowly started to pull away after it was at nine apiece to get the frame by another 25-17 scoreline. The Panthers finished off the sweep with a 25-15 score in the third set. CSU was able to bring it to 14-12 but went on a long run to seal the victory.

Skylar Yates led the team in kills as she finished with ten for her seventh match in double figures this year. This also marked her third consecutive reaching the number and fourth total in league play. Ilaria Durante and Kahea Carvalho had nine and eight assists in the matchup. Charleston Southern had six service aces on the night, tying the most they have allowed in a conference matchup this season.

On the defensive end, Mallory Neale was the team leader in digs with eight and Yates was next with six. The team allowed just two service aces from the visitors, the fewest they have allowed in a Big South matchup this season. Giada Pais-Marden had the team-high in total blocks with two.

The Buccaneers hit the road for their next matchups as they will take on Gardner-Webb (3-4) on Friday and Winthrop (6-1) on Saturday to start the second half of the league slate. CSU sits just one match behind from being in the league's top four to advance to the Conference Championship in November.
