CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern plays its first Big South home game of the season when the Bucs host UNC Asheville on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the CSU Soccer Field.
The Bucs split two conference road games last week, losing at Gardner-Webb before taking a 2-0 victory at USC Upstate.
Erin Rush and
Elin Persson scored first half goals, and
Sara Curtis had her third shutout.Â
The Bulldogs are 1-0-1 in the Big South with a 0-0 draw against Winthrop and a 1-0 win over Gardner-Webb.Â
The teams have met every season since the CSU program began in 1993, and the Bucs hold an 18-15-2 lead in the series. CSU has won six in a row against the Bulldogs including a 2-0 victory last season in Asheville behind goals from
Bri Robinson and
Jenea Knight.
Persson's goal against the Spartans gave her three on the year, tied with Robinson and Dakota Fielder for second on the team behind Knight's four. Rush, Robinson and Knight are in a three-way tie for the team lead with four assists.
Sara Curtis had her third shutout of the season against Upstate and has 42 saves.
Taylor Gardner leads UNC Asheville with four goals and three assists for 11 points. Brooklyn Scythes has three goals, and Daysha Chaney and Azalea Mihailovich have two each. Bronwyn Luitwieler has seen the most time in goal and has a 1.14 GAA and .784 save percentage.
