SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Erin Rush and
Elin Persson scored goals, and the Charleston Southern defense limited USC Upstate to nine shots in a 2-0 victory over the Spartans in a Big South game on Saturday.
Rush gave the Bucs (3-6-1, 1-1 Big South) a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when she fired a shot into the lower left portion of the goal off an assist by
Jenea Knight. It stayed that way until 14 seconds remained in the first half when
Daniela Contreras fed Persson, who found the lower right of the net.
Persson's goal was her third of the season while Rush scored her second. Knight was credited with her fourth assist of the year to move into a tie for the team lead with Rush and
Bri Robinson.
Persson led the Bucs with four shots followed by Rush, Knight, Robinson and
Reese Beggs with two each.
Sara Curtis faced only three shots on goal and stopped all of them for her third shutout of the season.Â
