CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern finishes its two-game Big South road swing on Saturday when the Bucs visit Spartanburg for a 4 p.m. match against USC Upstate.
CSU opened conference play with a 5-2 loss at Gardner-Webb, getting goals from
Gracen Beilstein and
Reese Beggs and assists from
Elin Persson and
Jenea Knight.
Knight's third assist of the season increased her point total to 11 to rank fifth in the Big South, and she is tied for fourth with four goals.
Bri Robinson and
Erin Rush are tied for fifth in the league with four assists.
Upstate won its conference opener with a 1-0 victory at High Point and is 3-2-3 overall. Sydney Thomas scored the game winner against the Panthers in the 11th minute, and Cora Brendle made five saves. Dara Russo leads the team with two goals, and Brendle is second in the Big South with an .895 GAA.
CSU leads the all-time series, 6-5, but the Spartans have won three of four meetings since joining the Big South. Upstate took a 1-0 overtime victory last season in Charleston.Â
Following Saturday's game, the Bucs return home on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game against UNC Asheville.
