TUCSON, Ariz. – Charleston Southern baseball shortstop Nick Rodriguez was named to the 2022 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American Team, as announced Wednesday morning.

Already a Big South All-Tournament team selection, Rodriguez was named a Freshman All-American alongside some of the nation's best rookies in 2019. The freshman ended the year batting .384 with five doubles and 18 runs batted in. Rodriguez also added a .493 slugging percentage to add to 16 walks and a perfect four of four on bags swiped.

Wednesday's announcement also makes Rodriguez the second Freshman All-American in program history, as RJ Petit was named to the 2019 team.

A native of Tampa Florida, Rodriguez made his mark on the season in the second-half as part of a run into the Championship round of the 2022 Ingles Big South Baseball Championships, the first for Charleston Southern since 2000 to add to a Charleston Southern lineup that broke five school records.

In the final 14 games, including postseason play, Rodriguez went 20 for his last 50 plate appearances for a .400 average, drove in 16 runs while scoring 12 of his own while adding five doubles and his only home run of the season to cement a spot in the Buccaneers lineup.

He earned his opportunity this spring and made us better B.U.C.S." 

Rodriguez is one of just three Big South rookies to be named to the 2022 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American Team and one of four shortstops across the country to earn the honor.
