Bucs Drop Road Contest Against High Point

The Charleston Southern volleyball team fell to the High Point Panthers today, dropping their record to 9-9 (2-2) this season. The match lasted four sets with the Panthers (11-6, 4-0) taking the first set by a 25-20 score.

In set one, the Bucs took a 10-6 lead to start out. In that span, CSU had four kills by Skylar Yates, Peyton Thompson and Indigo Young. Emilee Karlese had the assist in all four kills. Then, tied at 13, High Point went on a 4-0 run that included three kills and a service error. That run was too much for the Bucs to overome, as the Panthers took the first set.

Charleston Southern was able to even the match with a 25-21 set win. The Bucs jumped out to a 10-8 lead with three kills from Thompson. After High Point took a `15-13 lead, Charleston Southern went on a 6-0 run thanks to four service errors by the Panthers. After High Point tried to make a comeback, the CSU scored the final three points thanks to Yates.

An 8-2 run by the Panthers helped them take a 25-18 victory in set three. In that span, there were five attack errors by the Bucs. CSU tried to make things interesting, though as they were able to fight back to within one of the Panthers midway through, but 4-0 run by the Panthers made it 18-13. High Point scored the final three points thanks to two kills and a service error.

Set four was the same story, as the Panthers took the win as well as the match with a 25-18 victory. The Bucs jumped out to a 3-2 lead, but the Pantheres went on a 5-0 run with four kills to make it 7-3. While the Bucs rallied to cut it within two, the Panthers went on another run at the end to maker it 18-12.

Emilee Karlese had 24 assist to keep her in the top 14 in school history in that category. Angelika Rusin, the conference leader in digs, had 14 on the afternoon, and Thompson had 12 kills on the day.

The Bucs are back in action next weekend, as they start a two-game homestand next Friday, October 7 against USC Upstate at 6 p.m. at the Buc Dome. Then, next Saturday, they will play host to UNC Asheville at 2 p.m.
