CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern earned its first point of the season Thursday afternoon, playing Stetson to a 0-0 draw at the CSU Soccer Field.
Jenna Moran made eight saves in net for the Bucs, while
Elizabeth Olsen and
Jenea Knight led CSU with four shots apiece. Olsen had the best chance for the Bucs with a shot from near midfield that hit the crossbar.
Moran made a pair of saves in the first five minutes in what proved to be a battle of goalkeepers. Olsen was responsible for the Bucs' first two shots on target, both of which were saved by Stetson goalkeeper Ashleigh Wise.
Olsen nearly put the Bucs on top in the 33rd minute with a free kick from near the center circle that hit the crossbar. Stetson had six shots on target in the first half, but Moran was up to the challenge and stopped all six Hatter attempts.
Charleston Southern's defense came to life in the final 65 minutes of action, limiting Stetson to just two shots on target during that span. Knight and
Daniela Contreras each had shots on target in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but both attempts were saved.
Lauren McDonald had the best chance for the Bucs in the second half, but her shot hit the right post.
CSU had the only two shots of the overtime periods, but
Gracen Beilstein sent one over the crossbar from the top of the box and Olsen had her attempt on target saved.
