MOBILE, Ala. – The motto coming into 2021 was 'Moments' for Charleston Southern volleyball. Add comeback win to that growing list.
Facing a 2-0 deficit against Jacksonville (0-1), Charleston Southern (1-1) stormed back with three gut-check set wins for a dramatic 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 27-25, 25-23, 15-11) victory in the season opener from the South Alabama Invitational.
Rachel Feggeler had a career-best seven service aces in the Buccaneer triumph – just one short of the program record set by teammate
Ashleigh Holweger in the Spring 2021 finale at Presbyterian.
Feggeler also had 13 kills and 17 digs in the first match while
Dayana Chara added 14 and nine and
Peyton Thompson finished with 13 and eight. Freshman setter
Abigail Breeden got her first taste of collegiate volleyball with a team-high 22 assists while
Emma Minnick added 15 herself.
The host South Alabama (2-0) then capped the night sweeping the Bucs in three hard-fought sets 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-16). Chara paced the VolleyBucs with nine kills in the nightcap and Feggeler added four more aces for 11 total on the day.
Friday's win over the Dolphins made it back-to-back wins in the series while the Jaguars moved to 3-1 in the head-to-head matchup.
