Bucs top Camels 3-1, force split to stay in second place

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Powered by three players with 10-plus kills and another stingy defensive showing, Charleston Southern defeated Campbell 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-22, 25-23 Friday afternoon for a series split in Big South Volleyball action.

Charleston Southern (5-1, 5-1 Big South) used 16 kills and six blocks from two-time Big South Player of the Wee Paige Reagor as well as 13 kills from Dayana Chara and 12 from southpaw Peyton Thompson to down the high-powered Camles (6-2, 6-2 Big South) and keeping their second-place spot in the Big South standings.

Despite only hitting .156 in the opening set, the Bucs got the offense going hitting above .275 the rest of the way for a .262 mark while holding the Camels to just .200 and forcing 27 errors. Big South Preseason Player of the Year Sarah Colla had eight kills, but CSU forced her into nine errors to keep the high-flying attack under wraps.

The trio of Chara, Reagor and Thompson all hit above .200 with Chara's .355 leading the way with 13 kills on 31 attempts. Reagor's six blocks led the way as CSU had eight total as a team while collecting five service aces.

Emma Minnick had a season-best 41 assists in the win while collecting three blocks. Elle McFatrich led the Buccaneer backline with 14 digs while Ashleigh Holweger added 10 in the winning effort.

Friday's win secures a series split with the Camels and keeps the Bucs just one game out of first place in the Big South standings behind High Point.
