McDonald Sends Bucs to Victory in Overtime

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern soccer team picked up their second conference win this Wednesday after scoring a pair of goals to propel them to an overtime victory against UNC Asheville. Both teams picked up a quick first goal in under just eight minutes. The Buccaneers came off the foot of freshman, Emma Ryan, who finished a ball sent in from a Kayla Reese corner kick. It marks the first goal of the season for Ryan. The Bulldogs answered quickly picking up a goal of their own seven minutes later.

After a standstill second half, the teams went to overtime. The Bucs held an 11-7 shot advantage heading into extra time and would only allow Asheville to take one shot in overtime. The game-winning goal came from a Buccaneer free kick after the Bulldogs fouled 25 yards out. Kayla Reese was credited with her second assist after Lauren McDonald headed the ball through a pair of Bulldog defenders and successfully tapped in the ball. This marks the first overtime victory for CSU this year.

Charleston Southern will return to action this Saturday for their final road match against USC Upstate where the match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
