CHARLESTON, S.C. - For the first time in 477 days, Charleston Southern women's soccer will take the pitch to begin Big South conference play at Gardner-Webb on Sunday at 6 p.m. The team will hit the field with a new coaching staff for the first time in 25 years after
Jose Gomez took the reigns in December of 2019. The Bucs return 10 starters from the 2019 season combined and welcome six fresh faces to the pitch.
The Bucs finished the 2019 season, 7-10-2 and only dropped one road contest in conference play. In their last outing against Gardner-Webb, the Runnin' Bulldogs scored a late goal by way of a corner kick to take a 1-0 victory. Charleston Southern will look to find offensive power through
Dakota Fiedler who led the team in goals last season and
Bri Robinson, who finished in the top ten for assists in the conference last season.Â
Gardner-Webb enters the weekend 0-1 after dropping their first game to the Tennessee Volunteers by a final score of 0-6. While their top goal scorer, Stina Kleppe graduated, the Runnin' Bulldogs return another notable conference performer, Jada Newton who tallied seven goals in her freshman season.
The match is set to be streamed on ESPN+ and will begin at 6 p.m.Â
