CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Paige Reagor had a match-high 16 kills for Charleston Southern Friday evening, but visiting High Point bested the Bucs in four sets (25-21, 26-24, 23-25, 25-11) inside Buccaneer Fieldhouse.
Despite the scoreline, the Bucs were tied or ahead late in three of the four sets.
Peyton Thompson had 14 kills, while
Emma Minnick posted a double-double with 35 assists and 10 digs.
The opening set was a back-and-forth affair, with neither side leading by more than three until the late stages of the set. High Point broke a 21-all deadlock with four straight points to close out the set. The Panthers then had a five-point lead midway through the second before the Bucs put together a 7-2 run to tie the set at 15-15. CSU had set point after a Reagor kill but the Panthers rallied with three consecutive points to take the set and put the Bucs on the brink.
CSU got off to a hot start in the third set, taking nine of the first 12 points. Four different Bucs had kills during the early run. High Point rallied with a 9-2 run to tie the set at 14-all. After trading points and scoring runs for most of the set, the Bucs took advantage of a Panther service error and an
Ashleigh Holweger service ace to extend the match to a fourth set.
High Point opened the set on a 10-2 run and never looked back in the match. The Bucs were able to score consecutive points just once in the set, as the Panthers kept their foot on the gas pedal and won the final set, 25-11.
