CHARLESTON, S.C. – Coming down to a third-set tiebreak and in her first collegiate match, Charleston Southern freshman Khyanna Singh delivered in the clutch with a win in the fourth flight clinching a 4-3 Buccaneer win Saturday afternoon.

Charleston Southern (1-0) got off to a hot start taking the doubles point with wins on flights two and three then proceeded to trade singles courts with Georgia Southern (0-1) capped by Singh's walkoff winner in her Buccaneer debut.

Singh's 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 gut-check win was her second of the day after pairing with veteran Madalina Man for a 6-3 doubles victory that also clinched the doubles point. Man then finished her day a perfect 2-0 taking court No. 2 in singles play by a decisive 6-3, 6-4 margin.

Georgia Southern took the first singles point with a two-set win on the final flight bringing it to a 1-1 tie, but anytime the Eagles tried to mount a rally the Bucs had an answer.

Sophomore Zoe Cauthen took a straight-set 6-1, 6-4 match on court No. 5 before any Eagle answer at the top flight setting the stage for late-match fireworks.

Madalina Man's victory pushed the Bucs to the verge of a win before Georgia Southern took court No. 3 and tying the match at 3-all and turning all eyes on Singh, the Buccaneer freshman from Queens Village, N.Y.

Charleston Southern starts the season 1-0 as they return to action Friday, January 29 against crosstown rival College of Charleston in their second of five-straight home matches to begin the home slate.
