CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern looks to build on the momentum of a late rally at High Point when the Buccaneers face Presbyterian on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the CSU Soccer Field.
The Bucs (3-4-1, 0-0-1 Big South) stormed back from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of goals in the final 18 minutes to earn the draw against the Panthers.
Dakota Fiedler scored in the 72nd minute, and
Kayla Reese evened the score in the 88th minute, with the goals being the first of both players' careers.
Jazmin Gonzalez, who made 10 saves, stopped two close-in opportunities in the overtime periods to preserve the tie. The save total was a season high for Gonzalez, who has 128 in her career, 12 shy of passing Amy Arroyo for ninth in school history. She is fourth in the Big South with a 1.25 goals against average.
Eight different Bucs have scored goals, with
Kylie Doster and
Zari Hayes and
Elise Borys tied for the top spot with two.
Bri Robinson had an assist against High Point to give her a team-leading three on the year, one more than Fiedler.
The Blue Hose (2-6-0, 1-0-0) have won their last two games including a 2-1 overtime victory over Longwood in their conference opener. Morgan Hutchison scored goals in both wins and was named the Big South Attacking Player of the Week.
Hutchison along with Sydni Dachs, Peyton Patterson and Emily LaBoon have two goals to lead Presbyterian. Megan Serrano has started seven of eight games and has registered 38 saves.
CSU holds a 6-4-1 lead in the all-time series and has won three of the past four. The Bucs took a 3-2 overtime win last year in Clinton when
Emily Kifer scored five minutes into the first extra session.
