CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern volleyball took down fourth ranked Presbyterian this Friday night in a five-set thriller.
The Buccaneers got off to a good start, taking the first set by a final score of 25-18 before dropping the next two. Not giving up, the team would take the fourth and fifth set to secure the win. The Bucs held Presbyterian to .057 hitting as a team and denied their automatic bid to the Big South Tournament. This is the second time the Buccaneers have gone to five sets this year and have won both.
Multiple Buccaneers tallied career highs in the victory with senior
Brooke Monssen leading all players with 25 kills, just one shy of hitting the career 1,000 mark. To go with 25 kills, she also notched 20 digs, marking her seventh double-double this season.
Rachel Feggeler and
Macey LaPorte were next best for the Buccaneers offensively with 14 and 12 kills, respectively.
Caitlyn Michalski provided seven kills while
Paige Reagor picked up six.
Of the 64 team kills,
Emma Minnick assisted on 51, a career best to pair with 14 digs of her own.
Elle McFatrich provided a pair of service aces and 14 digs.
Defensively, senior libero
Skylar Blackmon led both teams with 29 digs in the win, a new career high. The Bucks tallied 13 total blocks with Michalski assisting on five and Reagor on four. Reagor also tallied three solo blocks, giving her 93 total on the season.
The Bucs will hit the road to wrap up regular season play on Nov. 15-16 to take on High Point and Radford.
