Buccaneers blank USC Upstate for second straight win

Box Score

How It Happened
•    The Bucs got on the board early with Fiedler scoring her second goal of the season off a pass from Lauren McDonald in the 13th minute.
•    It remained 1-0 until the 73rd minute when Fiedler got a foot on the ball in front of the net and it went off an Upstate defender for an own goal.
•    Just five minutes later the Bucs again struck when Chloe Bailey made a perfect feed to Hayes, whose goal gave her the team lead with five.

Inside the Numbers
•    The Bucs finished with 17 shots including four each by Fiedler and Bri Robinson. Hayes had three shots with each one being on target.
•    The CSU defense limited the Spartans to only nine shots and one on goal, which was easily stopped by Jazmin Gonzalez.
•    Haylee Myrup started in goal for Upstate and made four saves. Logan Pace played the second half and stopped three shots.
•    CSU took four corner kicks to two for Upstate.

News and Notes
•    The assists were career firsts for freshman McDonald and Bailey.
•    Including a 4-2 win over UNC Asheville on Saturday, the Bucs have seven goals in the past two games.
•    The last time CSU had more goals in a two-game span came early in the 2013 season with wins over Canisius (5-3) and Jacksonville State (4-2).
•    The shutout was Gonzalez's third of the season and eighth of her career.
•    The Bucs improved to 6-3 all-time against Upstate and are 1-1 since the Spartans joined the Big South.

Quoting Eric Terrill
"Every conference win is important, especially at home, so it was great to get the win. This keeps us in the hunt for a spot in the tournament. The more experience I can get for this young team the better, so we want to be playing in November."

Up Next
Gonzalez will be joined by Allie Crossland and Mallory Foster when the Bucs celebrate Senior Day on Saturday. CSU takes on S.C. State that day with a 10 a.m. kickoff.
