CHARLESTON, S.C. - In a battle between teams tied for third in the Big South entering the contest, it was Campbell that built a two-goal lead and held on for a 2-1 victory over Charleston Southern on Wednesday at the CSU Soccer Field.

The Buccaneers lost at home for the first time this season and dropped to 5-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the Big South. The Camels improved to 4-7-1 and 3-1-1- in league play and remained undefeated in their last four contests.

How It Happened

• The game was scoreless for the first 29 minutes despite good chances for both teams
• In the 15th minute, Grace Clark lined one up from about 30 yards out and her hard shot appeared headed on target but it sailed just high
• The Camels broke through in the 29th minute when Shannon Wratchford found herself alone in space and beat Jazmin Gonzalez to the top right corner of the goal
• The Bucs had another oppportunity in the 38th minute when Clark had a free kick from just outside the box, but it was grabbed by Campbell keeper Erin Scott
• Jessica Donald made it 2-0 in the 59th minute, taking a cross in the box from Rosie O'Neal and putting it in the left corner
• CSU started pushing the attack and got off four shots in a four-minute span late in the game, including three by Dakota Fiedler
• The Bucs were able to avoid the shutout with 15 seconds left when Sidney Doherty converted a penalty kick

Inside the Numbers

• CSU held a 14-12 edge in shots and both teams had four shots on goal
• Fiedler and Doherty had three shots each with Doherty accounting for half of CSU's attempts on target
• Doherty continued to be a force on the offensive end with 15 shots in the last three contests
• The Bucs had two corner kicks to one for Campbell
• With shots on goal limited by sound defenses, Gonzalez made only two saves and Scott had three stops

• Doherty tied Kayla Robinson and Riley Rumbley for the team lead with two goals
• Doherty also has two assists for a team-high six points
• The Bucs are 3-for-3 in penalty kicks the past two seasons with Doherty converting each one
• Clark and Emilie Gilbert played the whole 90 minutes and have been on the field for all 967 minutes this season
• The CSU defense limited Alexa Genas, the reigning Big South Attacking Player of the Year, to only two shots and none on goal
• The Bucs are 3-1-2 at home this season with contests remaining against High Point and Hampton
