CHARLESTON, S.C. - Goals by Kat Klingensmith and Danielle Maggio in a span of under 10 minutes in the first half staked Charleston Southern to an early lead, and the Buccaneer defense held strong the rest of the way in a 2-0 victory over High Point in a Big South women's soccer contest. 

The Bucs (6-4-2, 3-3-1) snapped a brief two-game losing streak in downing the defending Big South champions. The Panthers dropped to 5-7-3 and 3-2-2 in the conference.

How It Happened

• High Point came out on the attack, firing five shots in the opening minutes with the CSU defense blocking two and Jazmin Gonzalez saving another
• Just as they did against Gardner-Webb, the Bucs struck early with a goal just nine minutes into the game
• Sidney Doherty fed Peyton Motley, whose shot hit the post; Kat Klingensmith corralled the loose ball and put it in an empty net for her second goal of the season
• CSU wasted little time in adding to its lead, scoring again in the 19th minute
• Danielle Maggio intercepted a High Point clear attempt and rifled a shot into the lower right part of the goal to make it 2-0
• Although High Point outshot the Bucs 12-6 in the first half, the Panthers were denied four times by Gonzalez and several other times by a swarming CSU defense

• The Panthers outshot the Bucs 18-10 in the game although both teams had five attempts on goal
• Motley led CSU with four shots including two on goal; Maggio had three shots including her first career goal
• Doherty's assist was her team-high third of the season and seventh of her career
• Gonzalez finished with five saves in recording her third shutout of the season and fourth of her career
• High Point had nine corner kicks to five for CSU
• Talia Klimes started in goal for the Panthers and allowed two goals with two saves; Emily Lyon had one save in the second half

• Maggio became the 10th different CSU player and fifth freshman to score a goal this season
• CSU snapped a 10-game losing streak to High Point, defeating the Panthers for the first time since 2010
