CHARLESTON, S.C. - Anna Sells, Erica Gazzani and Jordan Newman connected on goals in a lightning-shortened contest on Sunday afternoon as Charleston Southern topped visiting North Florida at the CSU Soccer Field, 3-0.
Play was stopped twice during the match due to lightning strikes in the area. The first delay occurred midway through the first half and halted play due to the mandatory 30 minute delay to allow the storm cell to clear the area. The second and final time came at the 75:23 mark when the game was eventually marked final due to the NCAA Inclement Weather policy.
Sells scored her second game-winning goal and third goal of the season early in the first half, while Gazzani and Newman both added their first goals of the season as CSU outshot the Ospreys 12-9 and held the 7-4 shots on goal advantage. Gazzani and Lydia Frierson each added their second assists of the season during the contest.
Liz Amanda Brown (2-0) stopped all four UNF shots on goal for her second consecutive shutout win. Brown went the distance in the net for the Bucs and showed off her athleticism in making several plays outside of the box.
