SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Charleston Southern junior Caleb Breeden capped off a strong season to lead the Bucs at Saturday's Big South Conference Cross Country Championships. Breeden finished in 52nd place to pace six CSU runners in the field.
Campbell captured the Big South title, finishing with 31 points to edge Liberty and High Point. The Fighting Camels' Lawrence Kipkoech, a freshman, easily secured the top spot individually. Kipkoech ran the 8k course in 23:39.69 to beat his nearest competitor by over 30 seconds.
Breeden improved his time from last year's conference meet by almost 22 seconds to pace assistant coach for distance and jumps Sirena Williams' squad for the second consecutive year.
Breeden was also named to the Big South's All-Academic Team. The Christian Studies major holds a 3.67 career GPA. Breeden is also pursuing a minor in Business Administration.
Kuaniyal Chol and Harrison Huntley finished back-to-back in 60th and 61st place to support Breeden. Chol ran a time of 30:01.73 in his final career cross country race, while Huntley crossed the finish line in 30:02.10.
CSU sophomore Caleb Edgehill was the Bucs' other top finisher, placing 66th with a time of 30:48.31. Freshmen Gerald Bolton and Chris Fludd-Clark rounded out the action for the Bucs.
