Buccaneers drop midweek match at High Point, 2-0

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Charleston Southern dropped a midweek Big South matchup against High Point on Wednesday evening, falling to the host Panthers at Vert Stadium, 2-0.

Anna Sells led all players with six shots for the Buccaneers including a shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but CSU was unable to score in falling to 6-7-2, 3-5 in Big South play in the loss.

Lindsay Elsen and Michele Micciche both scored for the Panthers while Alex Persiani recorded a save as High Point improved to 10-3-4, 5-2-1 in conference play with the win.

Charleston Southern shot early and often in the first half as the Buccaneers recorded the first three shots of the contest with Sells taking the first shot at the 6:14 mark. She added a header just over a minute later, but the shot sailed high as the Bucs were unable to score early.

High Point's Kelsey Perrell nearly put the Panthers on the board in the 30th minute, but her shot hit the crossbar and rebounded back into play. In the 41st minute, Elsen found the back of the net off the assist from Savannah Stoughton, finishing the shot from six yards out to put HPU ahead 1-0.

The Panthers doubled their lead in the 69th minute as Micciche dribbled through the CSU defense and scored from 20 yards out to put High Point ahead 2-0.

CSU was unable to score the rest of the way in falling in the Big South match.

Charleston Southern returns home for their final match at the CSU Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon as the Bucs host Gardner-Webb in Big South play with kickoff set for 2 p.m. The Bucs will recognize 2015 seniors Chelsea Frankeny and Gina Cox at halftime.
