LYNCHBURG, Va. - A late second half run by Liberty put the game out of reach as Charleston Southern fell in Big South conference play to the Flames on Saturday afternoon, 66-45.

Charleston Southern narrowed the margin all the way back to within eight points following a pair of free throws by Anicia Dotson at the 13:35 mark, but the Flames responded with a 20-8 run in going ahead 60-40 in pulling away from the Buccaneers and handing CSU their second loss to Liberty on the season.

Charleston Southern falls to 8-16, 4-11 in Big South Conference play following the game, while Liberty improves to 14-9, 10-4 in conference action with the victory.

Tatum Jarvis led the Buccaneers on the afternoon with 13 points and added a team high four steals to her totals as Charleston Southern shot 24.5 percent from the floor as a team in the contest. Dotson and Rochelle Brophy added seven points apiece, while Erin Bratcher paced CSU with seven rebounds in the loss.

Katelyn Adams led the Flames with 10 points and 15 rebounds in recording the double-double, while Emily Frazier and Simone Brown were also in double-digits with 10 points apiece in pacing Liberty to the victory inside the Vines Center. Liberty held the 51-28 advantage on the glass against the Buccaneers.

Senior guard Erin Bratcher opened the scoring in the contest with a three-pointer on the opening possession to give the Buccaneers the early lead, but Liberty quickly jumped ahead by going on a 16-1 run over the first ten minutes of the game to build an early double-digit lead. The Flames were led by nine early points by Fisher-Davis during the stretch in going up 16-4 with 9:58 to play in the first half.

Charleston Southern rallied back to bring the game back within single digits as Jarvis rattled off five straight points as the Bucs went on a 9-0 run to pull within 16-13. DJ Fowler made the big shot during the run, connecting on a three-pointer at the 7:39 mark to pull the game within three points, while Jarvis also connected on a triple during the stretch in bringing CSU back.

Liberty ended their scoreless streak on a pair of Brown free throws with 7:27 to play, and the Flames went back up double-digits late before the end of the half in building a 27-17 lead. Jarvis and Natasha Lebedeva would close out the half with two points apiece for CSU, but the Bucs entered the halftime break trailing 29-21 to the host Flames.

Charleston Southern scored the first four points out of the break as Brophy hit a jumper on the opening possession and Dotson took the steal and drove in for the layup with 19:18 to play to cut the deficit down to four. Eight straight points by the Flames pushed the lead back up into double-digits at 37-25 with 16:10 to play with Ashley Rininger sparking the run with four points in a row for Liberty.

Charleston Southern brought the margin back to within eight on a Jarvis three-pointer, and following a Rininger layup, Dotson converted back-to-back free throws to put the score at 40-32 with 13:35 to play. This however, would be the closest the Buccaneers would get the rest of the way as the Flames would go on a 20-8 run spanning the next 11 minutes in taking the 60-40 with 2:53 to play.

Liberty would close out the game in taking the 66-45 victory over the Buccaneers.

Charleston Southern returns home next weekend for their final two home games of the 2013-14 season as the Buccaneers host High Point on Thursday evening, before celebrating Senior Day against Campbell on Saturday. Tipoff between the Bucs and the Panthers on Thursday evening inside the Buc Dome is set for 7 p.m.
