FARMVILLE, Va. - Charleston Southern dropped a 2-0 decision on the road in Big South Conference play on Saturday afternoon, falling to Longwood at the Athletics Complex.

Lydia Frierson had two shots on goal for the Bucs and Anna Sells recorded a shot on goal for the Bucs, as CSU attempted nine shots in the match, but were held scoreless for just the third time all season in the loss.

Caitlin Cody recorded nine saves in goal for the Bucs in the loss, while Maria Kirby had all three saves on the CSU shot attempts in recording the shutout.

CSU falls to 5-10-1 overall on the season, 1-5-1 in Big South Conference play, while Longwood improves to 7-6-3 overall, 2-3-2 in conference action on the year.

Longwood came out firing on the net in the first 15 minutes before Samantha Phillips found the net at the 16:14 mark for the Lancers to take the early 1-0 lead. Amanda Spencer sent the cross into the box to Phillips and her shot was deflected past Cody and into the net to state Longwood to the first half lead.

The Bucs attempted to even the score late in the half, but both of Frierson's attempts missed the mark as the teams went into the halftime break with Longwood holding the 1-0 lead.

The Lancers added to their lead in the second half as Christina Corbin connected at the 56:35 mark off the assist from Spencer. Her shot from 30 yards out dipped underneath the crossbar and into the net to double the Longwood lead.

Sells nearly took one back for CSU in the 70th minute, but her attempt was saved by Kirby, and the Longwood goalkeeper turned away Frierson's shot in the 86th minute as the Bucs were unable to cut into the Lancers lead in falling 2-0.

Charleston Southern returns home on Wednesday as the Bucs host High Point in Big South Conference action at the CSU Soccer Field. Kickoff between the Bucs and the Panthers is set for 3 p.m.
