Bucs looking for strong finish at Saturday's Big South Championships

BUENA VISTA, Va. -  The Charleston Southern Men's Cross Country team looks to finish their season strong at the Big South Championships this weekend. The championship begins on Saturday morning at Vista Links Golf Course in Buena Vista, Va. VMI is hosting the event.

CSU coach Ryan Thompson has been pleased with the steady improvement from his Buccaneer team all season and looks for the team to finish strong.

"I knew once everyone was semi-healthy and running together we would have a solid group," Thompson said. "I've have been impressed with junior Oshay Davenport. This is his first year running cross country. Each week he steadily improved and accepted whatever was thrown his way."

Thompson also mentioned freshman standouts Caleb Breeden and Zachary Long and their steady improvement.

"I'm excited to see how the two freshman run in their first championships." Breeden and Long have been two of the Bucs's most consistent runners this season. Junior Kuaniyal Chol looks to continue his steady season with a strong finish as well.

It is also the final race for Senior Scott Morrison.

"Scott training has been hampered but he'll compete regardless of his current fitness level," remarked Thompson on Morrison's availability. Morrison, the only senior on the team this season, has been a steady influence on the other runners.

Liberty is the defending champion in the event.
