Lashley and Lewis lead Bucs past UNC Asheville, 3-0

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Toni Lashley led the way with two first half goal and Allison Lewis chipped in her third goal of the season as Charleston Southern topped UNC Asheville in Big South Conference action on Saturday afternoon, 3-0.

Caitlin Cody recorded her first shutout of the season in goal for the Buccaneers, recording six saves for CSU in goal to give Charleston Southern their first conference win of the 2013 season.

Charleston Southern improves to 4-7-1, 1-2 in Big South Conference play on the year, while UNC Asheville falls to 5-6-1, 2-1 overall in conference action with the loss.

Lashley recorded her second multi-goal game of the season, scoring at the 15:50 mark and 18:18 mark to up her team-leading season total to six goals on the year to stake the Bucs to an early 2-0 lead at the half.

UNC Asheville took the first three shots of the game with Shenny Lehhart, Gabby Feinstein and Amanda Dailor all shooting wide before Lashley's first shot attempt found the back of the net for the Buccaneers. Lashley took the pass from Chelsea Phillips at the 15:50 mark, drilling the ball past Heather Muller into the back of the net to put the Bucs ahead 1-0.

Less than three minutes later, after Emma Faubert's shot sailed wide, Lashley connected on her second goal of the contest, this time off the assist from Lewis to put the Bucs ahead 2-0 at the 18:18 mark in the first half.

Asheville outshot the Bucs in first half 7-6, but Cody collected four saves in the period to keep the Bulldogs off the board as CSU took the 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

Coming out in the second half, UNC Asheville again challenged the Buccaneers defense early with four shots before Lewis connected on her third goal of the season at the 56:22 mark off the assist from Ashley Lowdermilk. Lowdermilk's corner kick into the box fell at the feet of the senior midfielder and she connected on the shot past Muller to stake CSU to the 3-0 lead.

The Bucs offense continued to press through the remainder of the half as CSU picked up four offside calls in the half, while Cody made saves on Asheville's two shots on goal to preserve the shutout.

Charleston Southern remains on the road as the Buccaneers travel to Buies Creek, N.C. on Wednesday as the Bucs take on Campbell in a Big South Conference clash. Kickoff between the Bucs and Camels is set for 7 p.m.
