Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern remains on the road as the women's soccer team heads into the final week of the 2013 regular season, making the trip High Point in a Big South Conference matchup on Wednesday evening to take on the Panthers. The Buccaneers kickoff against High Point at Vert Stadium, with start time set for 7 p.m.
CSU enters the contest on Wednesday with a 6-9-1 overall record, 3-5 in Big South action on the season, while High Point enters with a 5-9-1 record, 3-4-1 record in conference play.
This past Saturday afternoon, three consecutive Longwood goals in the first 25 minutes of the contest offset Allison Lewis' sixth goal of the season as Charleston Southern was unable to overcome the host Lancers on Saturday afternoon in Big South Conference play, 3-1.
Lewis connected on the first goal of the contest, drilling the ball into the net in the seventh minute of the game, but Samantha Phillips, Kelsey Pardue and Olivia Colella all followed with goals in the next 18 minutes of play to give the Lancers a lead they would not relinquish as CSU saw their two-match conference winning streak come to an end.
Senior forward Toni Lashley continues to pace the Charleston Southern offense on the season with eight goals scored, including four in conference play this year, and has added three assists to the CSU efforts. Lashley is currently tied for second overall in the conference standings in goals scored.
Lewis has continued to provide a spark for the Buccaneers offense over the last six games, scoring five goals and adding four assists during the span to pace Charleston Southern to three Big South wins over the span. Lewis is currently second with six goals and has five assists on the season, tied for second in the Big South standings in those categories.
Fellow senior Chloe Urig connected on her first goal of the season last weekend on a penalty kick, while leading the Bucs defensive efforts at both the midfield and defender positions. Urig, Nikki Schoning, Stephanie Hand, Chandler Wingreen, Hali Singleton, Jordan Haughton-James and Kenandra DeSaussure have all seen time on the backline in a defensive front that has allowed an average of 1.65 goals per game.
In goal, Caitlin Cody is coming off of back-to-back shutouts in the net during her last two starts, while Dana McLaughlin has also posted two shutouts, while sitting among the Big South leaders with 91 saves in the 2013 season.
Charleston Southern looks to bounce back from their loss against a High Point team that has also struggled this season and enters the match posting a 1-4-1 record in the month of October, but the Panthers have proven to be a difficult team to beat, posting a 4-3 record at Vert Stadium.
Kelsey Perrell leads the Panthers offense with six goals on the season, while Taylor Parker has five goals and Kelli Joline has scored four times on the season. The Panthers offense has been set up by Becca Hemby's four assists on the year, while Jacky Kessler is close behind with three assists.
Inside the net, Jesse May has started 14 games for High Point and has a 2.28 goals against average on the season, with 66 saves. She also has all three of the Panthers shutouts, recording scoreless wins over East Carolina, VMI and Gardner-Webb.
High Point leads the all-time series between the Panthers and Buccaneers, posting the 13-6 advantage over Charleston Southern.
